Privacy Policy
Effective October 17, 2026
In short: Home Free helps you and the people you share money with (your crew) pay off debt and save. We keep only what the app needs to do that. We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps. You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.
Who we are
Home Free is made by Home Free Labs LLC, a small company in Arizona. Questions about this policy or your data go to homefree.dev@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive an identifier for your account, your email address (or Apple's private relay address if you chose to hide it) and, if shared, your name. You can change the name the app shows.
- Your banks, through Plaid. If you connect a bank, Plaid gives us your accounts' names, types, last four digits and balances; your loans and credit cards with their balances, interest rates, minimum payments and due dates; and your transactions (date, amount, description, merchant and category). We never see or store your bank username or password.
- What you enter. Debts you add by hand, your savings goal, how much extra you put in each month, payments you mark as paid, and how you arrange your screens.
- Your devices. The name of each device you sign in on, so you can see and end those sessions.
Face ID and your calendar stay on your iPhone. If you turn on calendar reminders, the app writes payment dates to the calendar you pick; we never read your calendar or receive anything from it.
How we use it
- To build your crew's payoff and savings plan and show how you're doing against it.
- To keep your balances, debts and transactions up to date from your banks.
- To keep you signed in securely and to fix problems.
That's all. We don't use your data for advertising, sell it or share it with data brokers.
What your crew sees
A crew is the small group you plan with, such as a partner. Everyone in your crew sees the crew's debts (name, balance, interest rate, minimum payment and due date), the savings goal and how much each person has put toward it, each person's monthly extra, and which payments have been marked paid.
Your transactions, your spending and the "only you" blocks are visible only to you. Your bank login is never shown to anyone.
Who else handles your data
We use a few service providers to run the app. They process data only on our behalf:
- Plaid connects your banks. Plaid's handling of your bank data is described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
- Apple and Google handle sign-in.
- Google Cloud runs our server, and Neon hosts our database, in the United States.
Each of them is required to protect your data at least as well as this policy does, and to use it only to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How we protect it
- Everything between the app and our server is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- The keys that let us read your bank data from Plaid are encrypted before they're stored.
- Sign-in sessions are stored only as one-way hashes, and you can sign out of every device from the app.
No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we store to a minimum and protect what we keep.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
- We keep your data while you have an account.
- Disconnect a bank in the app and we stop receiving its data and delete its transactions. You choose whether its debts stay in the plan as debts you update by hand.
- Delete your account in Profile and we delete your account, your banks, accounts, transactions and sessions, and remove you from your crew. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Home Free's access to your Apple ID.
- Deleted data can remain in our database provider's backups for a short time, up to 30 days, before it's gone for good.
You can also email homefree.dev@gmail.com to ask for a copy of your data or to have it deleted.
Your choices
Connecting a bank, sharing with a crew and adding payments to your calendar are all optional, and you can undo each one in the app at any time: disconnect the bank, leave the crew or turn calendar reminders off. Deleting your account withdraws your consent to everything in this policy.
Children
Home Free is for adults managing their own money. It isn't meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is used, we'll let you know before it takes effect, for example in the app or by email.
